The National Taxi and Private Hire Driver Survey 2026 is now live
The 2026 National Taxi & Private Hire Driver Survey is open. If you drive a taxi or private hire vehicle anywhere in the UK, this is your chance to be counted.
It takes about 10 minutes, it is completely anonymous, and your answers feed straight into a national report that drivers, operators, licensing authorities and the trade press will all be reading. You can take it here: Take the 2026 survey.
The quick version
Opens: 1 July 2026
Closes: 30 September 2026
Report published: 2 November 2026
Time needed: about 10 minutes
Anonymous: yes, we only ask for an email so we can contact a prize winner
Prize draw: a chance to win a £500 voucher
In 2024, more than 1,400 drivers took part in the first National Taxi & Private Hire Driver Survey. What they told us did not stay quiet; it became a report picked up by national, regional and trade press, and it is still being cited as a reference point for the industry today. You can read the 2024 report here.
This year we want to go bigger, and that means hearing from more of you.
What we're asking about in 2026
We have kept most of the 2024 questions exactly as they were, so we can measure what has genuinely changed over two years. We have also added some new ground. Here are three of the big areas.
Getting licensed (and the cross-border question)
Cross-border licensing was the single biggest concern drivers raised in 2024, topping the list in 8 of 12 UK regions (here's why it still dominates). This year we are going further. We want to know what it actually took to get your licence: the cost, the wait, the trips to the council office, and whether you have ever considered licensing with a different authority, and why.
The money
Fuel, insurance, maintenance, and whether your earnings are keeping pace with all of it. In 2024, 68.3% of drivers told us the rising cost of living was eating into their earnings. We are asking again, alongside the switch to electric, where 88.5% of drivers said they could not charge an EV at home.
We know many people aren’t comfortable discussing finances but this survey is completely anonymous and your response could help shine a light on issues in the industry.
How the job is treating you
Your wellbeing, your safety on shift, and the big one: whether being a driver is still worthwhile. In 2024, over 40% of drivers said it no longer was. We want to know whether that has shifted, in either direction.
Why drivers, specifically?
This survey is for drivers. Not operators, not licensing authorities, not the app companies. Plenty of people have opinions about the trade; far fewer ask the people actually behind the wheel. The whole point is to capture your experience, in your words, and put real numbers behind it.
It is anonymous and editorially independent; the findings are reported exactly as drivers give them.
Your privacy, and what happens to your answers
We know some drivers held back last time because they were not sure what we wanted the data for. So, plainly: the survey is completely anonymous. We do not ask for your name, your licence number, your vehicle reg, or anything else that could identify you.
The only personal detail we collect is an email address, and that is solely so we can contact the winner of the £500 prize draw. This is also not a required field, so you have the option of completing the survey without submitting this - however, you wouldn’t be eligible for the prize draw.
Your answers are only ever reported in aggregate, as part of the national report.
On security, this is not a survey thrown together on a free form tool. TaxiPlus is part of Personnel Checks, which is ISO 27001 accredited, Cyber Essentials Plus certified and ICO registered, so your data is handled to a recognised information-security standard.
And this is not our first time. In 2024, more than 1,400 drivers trusted us with their answers, and that data was used exactly as described here: aggregated into the report, never sold, never shared, with email addresses used only for the prize draw.
What happens next
The survey is open from 1 July and closes on 30 September 2026. After that we clean and analyse the responses, compare them against the 2024 data, and publish the full national report on 2 November. Take part, and you will be among the first to see the findings when they land.
Take the survey
If you are a taxi or private hire driver, we would love to hear from you. It is 10 minutes, it is anonymous, and it genuinely shapes how the industry talks about itself for the next two years.

Every valid submission goes into the prize draw for a £500 voucher, announced when the report launches. And if you know other drivers, please pass it on; the more of you we hear from, the truer the picture.
